French Exchange

At Chew Valley School we are lucky enough to have our own French Partner School . Our link with Collège Bobée was set up in 1998 and in the course of the last 11 years about 200 of our pupils have taken part in the French Exchange. The exchange is open to pupils studying French in Year 9 and 10 and in the past some of our best sixth form language students took part in both Year 9 and Year 10!

Collège Bobée is a secondary school in the small town of Yvetot in Normandy. The majority of the pupils live in villages outside the town and travel in to school by car or coach just as most of our pupils do – in fact this is certainly one of the reasons why the school is such a good match for Chew Valley.

The French pupils who are taking part come to spend a week with their English partners in March and then our pupils go to stay with them for a week in May. Excursions  are organised during the school day with the French pupils visiting places such as Bristol, Bath, Wells and Oxford and the English pupils visiting Rouen, Honfleur and Paris where a trip up the Eiffel Tower has become something of a tradition. In the evening s and at weekends the pupils get the chance to improve their language skills by spending time with their partners and their families. Teachers from Chew Valley travel with the group and accompany them on all their excursions but can also be contacted by phone at any time if any problems arise.
