German Exchange

We are lucky at Chew Valley School to have a long standing link with the Camerloher Gymnasium in the small Bavarian town of Freising near Munich. For many years now, pupils from Backwell School and Chew Valley School have come together to welcome visitors from Freising for a week in March. Then in the summer term we return to experience a week of German life.

Pupils spend weekends and evenings with their host families then meet up with the other English participants for a programme of cultural visits and activities throughout the daytime. Visits have included guided tours of the medieval town of Regensburg, the fairy tale castles of Linderhof and Neuschwanstein and of course the Bavarian capital Munich.

Those who take part thoroughly enjoy the experience. They come back home feeling as though they have improved their German linguistic skills immeasurably but more than this, they have made firm friendships, gained an insight into another culture and developed their own sense of self confidence and independence.
