Philosophy Film Club

We're pleased to announce a new addition to Chew Valley's busy extra curricular programme: Philosophy Film Club! This will run every Monday at 1pm in H10. We will be starting off by watching Saving Private Ryan, the epic winner of 5 Oscars, 2 Golden Globes and 2 BAFTAs starring Tom Hanks. It tells the tale of a group of US soldiers at the Normandy Landings in World War 2 who go behind enemy lines to rescue a paratrooper whose brothers have been killed in action.

We will be watching the first part of the film and discussing the question "Is war ever justified?" This film fits in with the year 11 RE core topic Religion War and Peace.
Philosophy film club is open to anyone old enough to watch the film being shown. Future films to be shown include When the Wind Blows (nuclear war) Minority Report (predicting the future and "precrime") The Host (identity) and My Sister's Keeper (medical ethics).
