Whilst university proves to be the favoured post-sixth form route for the majority of our students every year a number of students opt for higher apprenticeships, degree apprenticeships or sponsored degrees. This option not only offers our students the chance to earn while they learn, it also gains them valuable work place experience and kickstarts their professional life.
In 2016 several of our sixth formers gained prestigious apprenticeship placements including Takara Gregson who was accepted onto an accountancy apprenticeship with Bath-based firm Bishop Flemming and George Sommerfield gained a place on a digital marketing apprenticeship with Hargreaves Lansdown. Our students are pursuing higher level training programmes in areas as diverse as electrical engineering (Sam Wedlake), media and public relations (Abby Moss), child care (Heather Uppington and Hollie Sherwood) and paramedics (Victoria Prater).
Over the course of the coming year alongside our sessions with the students focusing on university we will be running a series of workshops, information sessions and careers meetings with students relating to higher apprenticeships and alternative routes post-sixth form. We also send out weekly emails to all students letting them know of apprenticeship opportunities, both locally and nationally, whilst the sixth form team work with the students to help them find apprenticeships that suit their interests.
