KS4 Dance

You will study several different dance techniques and styles.
You will be taught skills to create and choreograph your own solo or group choreography pieces.
You will study professional dance works to develop your appreciation skills for your written paper.
You will explore performance and choreography skills and attributes.
Your course will include working with visiting dance artists and trips to the theatre.
You will gain performance experience from taking part in the Chew Valley Dance Festival.

Dance is a powerful and expressive subject which encourages students to develop their creative, physical, emotional and intellectual capacity, whatever their previous experience with dance.
This specification recognises the role of dance in young people’s lives and students will study a range of dance styles and style fusions to include Hip-hop, Contemporary, Brazilian & Capoeira.
The study of the anthology of six professional works will develop students ability to critically appraise professional dance works providing students with excellent transferrable skills in careers and further education.

Performance (30%), Choreography (30%), Written Dance Appreciation (40%)

This course is both practical and theory based.

Component 1: Performance and Choreography

This component is internally marked and externally moderated.

Performance (30% of the GCSE, 40 marks)

•Learn two set phrases through a solo performance - approx. 1 minute each in duration.

•Duet/trio performance (approx. 3 minutes in duration).

•Mental skills during performance (marked across both elements of performance).

Choreography (30% of GCSE, 40 marks)

Solo or group choreography based on stimulus set by AQA (Year 11)

Component 2: Dance Appreciation (40% of GCSE, 80 marks)

This component is a written examination of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
